The 70-284 exam explores the new features found in Microsoft?s premier messaging product, Exchange Server 2003. As with all recent Microsoft exams, a strong understanding of Active Directory is a prerequisite for this certification. Successful completion of this exam provides the candidate with Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) status, and counts as an elective for both the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 certification and the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 certification. This exam also counts as a core credit for both the MCSA - Messaging and MCSE Messaging certifications.

Because Exchange Server 2003 is an extension of the Exchange 2000 base code and relies upon Active Directory, there are some obvious similarities between these two products. However, the candidate must be well-versed in the many new features and improvements found in the new release:

- Manage recipient policies, user objects, distribution and security groups, contacts, and address lists
