Microsoft Exam 70-272 is the second and final step in achieving the new Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) on Microsoft Windows XP certification.  
Important Exam Information and Objectives

Like the 70-271 exam, this exam is targeted to IT professionals who support end users who run Microsoft Windows XP products in a home or corporate environment. However, the 70-272 exam moves beyond the first exam in this certification to focus more on configuring and troubleshooting applications. A strong knowledge of common support issues for productivity applications ?h as those included in Microsoft Office XP, is required. Other Microsoft-based applications are covered as well, including Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. A general knowledge of the following subjects is also required:

• configuration and support for POP3 and MAPI-based e-mail clients
• modify operating system settings to support and optimize application performance
• maintain and troubleshoot security issues related to the Internet, viruses, and application security settings
• enable and configure the Automatic Updates feature
